Interesting Search Words #20

Interesting Search Words #20

Yes! The 20th installment of a series guaranteed to get me more hits (Because I am getting hits.) on my not so humble blog. With 20+ more to go. And so ...

1. haruhi suzumiya gods can't die - Of course not. And keep in mind ...

It's all in her hands.

2. ayn rand is the devil - Only to Democrats & too many Republicans.

Yup! Pure dead bang evil ...

3. haruhi suzumiya no hips - Really? You sure about that?

Poor, skinny, anorexic, undernourished, wretched little thing ... Yeah! Right!

4. chastity hentai - There is such a thing?

Translation: I've seen enough hentai
to know where this is going.

5. haruhi suzumiya evil smile - Now how can THAT be? How about an all knowing smirk instead?

6. atlas shrugged & lord of the rings - Truely, we are trapped in Mordor.

Ever notice, when discussing (ie.: argueing) anything weighty with someone, they usually rely on: cliches, mantras, chants, out of context bible quotes, threats, ad hominem attacks & ... noise? Logic? Reason? Just what the heck are those? There are times I can't help but think I'm a minor protagonist in an Ayn Rand novel that never ends. I swear! If Jesus doesn't come soon, rapture or no rapture (Probably not!), I'd be willing to settle for an alien invasion! Or getting tanged ... whatever ...

7. bleach my little pony - Methinks this pony thing has gone far enough.

Perhaps even a bit on the creepy side.

8. women at work hentai - Uh ... just what kind of work are these women into?

9. sick shinji - Other than THAT SCENE in End of Evangelion, I would say he's more on the hapless & dumb side. Like someone else we know.

Hapless & dumb. Nothing ... but ... abuse.

And so ends this exciting "episode" of Interesting Search Words. Next installment's gonna take a while. Seems such search words from y'all are fewer & farther between. Til then ...

Charlie Brown Summons Hell Girl

"Shhhh! Be vewy, vewy quiet ... I'm huntin' souls! Heh! Heh! Heh! Heh!"

                                        Charlie Brown Summons Hell Girl

So I'm going through my blog stats traffic sources when I stumble on "charlie brown summons hell girl". That would definitely make for an interesting Hell Girl episode or Peanuts TV special. I can see it now:

Tonight, on CBS. An all new Peanuts special. "It's Hell Link Charlie Brown!". Brought to you by Dolly Madison Cakes ... Makers of Razzies, Hickies & Boogaloos. And ... by your local Croaka Cola bottler.

Go ahead Chuck! Your "griefance" shall be avenged ...

Boy, if anyone ever needed that straw doll it's ole' Chuck! That darn Lucy! Always giving poor Charlie a hard way to go. Putting him down in front of God n' everybody. Messing up the ball game. Giving lousey psychiatric advice (Whadaya expect for a nickle anyway?). Always calling him "blockhead". Taking away that football at the last moment.

If anybody deserves to go to perdition ...

If anybody deserves to go to perdition it's that rotten Lucy. Go ahead Chuck! Pull the string! ... But wait ...

"OK ... I pull the string & she's outta my life forever. But when it's my time to go I go to Cleveland ... er ... 'the other place' too!? ... Good Grief!"

SPOILER ALERT! : Wether Charlie sends Ms. van Pelt to heck or not is immaterial. Third Impact eventually hits & Rei glops him instead.

"Aaauugh! ... It's the little red haired girl! ... She's heading this way! ... She wants to talk to me! ... What am I gonna' say? ... What do I do? ... What do I ... Huh? ... Her eyes match her hair! How could ... Awww rats!" SPLAT! ... burble ... burble ...

Search Words of Interest # 1

                                            Interesting Search Words #1

Hopefully this will be at least a bi-weekly "column". It will consist of the more interesting search words net surfers have used leading them to this blog. Here's a few from last week.

1. how does Lucys' dress look in Charlie Brown - I assume the searcher meant "look on" Charlie Brown. Judging by Charles Shulzs' "simple" art style, I imagine Charlie would look pretty much like Lucy but without the hair. I also imagine this particular net surfer to be a little on the "strange" side.

2. azumanga daioh osaka shocked - Fans of Azumanga Daioh are pretty much aware that the Osaka character looks rather "shocked" just about all the time.

"What 't heck you starin' at!?" Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga

3. osaka drag show - I assume this to be another Azumanga search. Or maybe it's in reference to an Initial-D spinoff? Or ..... an all male revue in southern Japan?

4. sandy fantasy porn actress - I have no idea how this could have led someone to this blog. Well I do mention hentai on this blog but not in favorable terms.

That's it for now. There'll probably be some more next week.

20,000 Hits!

A demotivational combining the Azumanga Daioh "cast" & the Black Lagoon
art style. L-R foreground: Maya, Sakaki, Kagura, Aymu "Osaka" Kasuga,
Chiyo-chan Mihama, Mr. Tadakichi, Tomo Takino, Koyomi "Yomi" Mizuhara.
Back: Nyamo "Minamo" Kurasawa, Yukari Tanizaki. Further back: Kaorin,
Mr. Kimura, & "Chiyos' father"

                                                        20,000 Hits!

This actually happened a couple thousand back. Just haven't gotten to "celebrating" til now.

Really not much to say that hasn't been said at 10,000 hits. Of course, THANK YOU ONE & ALL! I mean it. I'm really flattered/gratified that so many from all over the world would take a gander at my simple (Simplistic?) little blog. Even if the majority are only here to "snatch" illustrations. Hopefully SOME of you are reading the articles that go with them.

Which brings me to this: As a certain Azumanga Daioh picture & a couple anime style renditions of Charles Schulzs' Peanuts gang are popular (click here, & here.), I thought I'd post the ones you see here. Enjoy.

Again, some of the Peanuts gang as teens, anime style. Left: Sally Brown.
Top: Sally & Charlie Brown. Bottom: Sally Brown & Rerun van Pelt.

Again ..... THANK YOU FOR "WATCHING".

10,000 Hits!

Credit: Snorgtees.com

10,000 Hits! Actually over eleven grand now. I find it amazing I've gotten this far since August of last year when I started this blog. Only had 496 for the month of last March then it spiked to 3497 in April (This was due to the "popularity" of a Call of Cthuhu review I did in February.). This dropped to 996 in May I think due to the bin Laden hit earlier that month (Everyone looking at that instead of just "net cruising".), but picked up to 2869 in June. Up to that time, the vast majority was due to the aforementioned article.

July turned out to be an interesting month. The hits on the Cthulhu article dropped to a trickle, other articles (Particularly the Azumanga Daioh/Peanuts comparison. Over 600 hits!) took up the slack with over 2600 hits. It's gratifying to see other articles (Some written months ago.) being looked at.

More of the Peanuts gang as anime characters. L-R: Violet, Peppermint Patty,
Marcie, & Patty.

      I've learned a few things:

1. When using illustrations, rename them. They're more likely to be found on image searches with the name(s) of the show(s)/characters in the name. A lot more effective than say, 123xyz.jpg.Yeah, it does attract those only after pictures. But a hit's a hit & helps the "visibility" of ones' blog. I'm sure SOME of them actually stop to read the accompanying article.

2. Same for article titles. Putting the name of the show/subject in the title makes it easier for anyone interested in the subject to find it.

3. Be as complete with key/search words as possible. List as many titles, characters, episodes etc. mentioned in the article as you can. The more "clues 'n ques" the better for search engines to point out your article.

Anime. I love anime. Or at least the anime I love. I'm quite selective & shie away from most of the "flavor of the month". If it's The Attack of the Angst Ridden Giant Robot Magical Lesbian Schoolgirl, I'm not interested. As Theodore Sturgeon is reputed to have said: "90% of everything is crap." That goes double for anime (And no, I'm not saying anime is 180% crap!).

I became cognizant of this "artform" when I was just a kid in the 60s', long before it was even called "Japanimation". I knew there was something different/fascinating & what little I could get to view, I enthusiastically took in. Central Ohio TV offered VERY little in anime. As we couldn't get cable out where I lived, I was stuck with the rare movie (Panda & the Magic Serpent, Jack & the Witch, etc.), or Marine Boy Saturday mornings on Ch 10. Visits to the grandparents in upstate New York intro'd me to at lot of  it (Gigantor, 8th Man, etc.). It was in the early 70s anime trickled in on central Ohio TV. I was older & in the workforce then, not having much time for it. Come to think of it, I don't have much time for it now but I indulge anyway.

Though I'm picky about the anime I view, I will say the artwork of even the dumbest of them to be usually superior to most of the crud U.S. animators serve up. There seems to be an ugly "aesthetic" prevalent in "our" cartoons that I can't bring myself to stomach. Spongebob, Chowder, Flapjack  & Sym-Bionic Titan are perfect examples. Even the work of a Bruce Timm I don't find appealing as much as I used to.

Old movies. Pre 70s in particular. My first love & always will be. My criteria for a great flick: Black & white, & at least half the cast are long dead. The style. The fashion. The "sensibility" I can't get enough of. The good guys always win. True love never dies. Yeah, plenty of exceptions, but they were handled better. Oh yes. Old cars were popular then.

If nothing unforeseen/traumatic happens in the future, I intend to keep this blog going. As for you, I hope you keep "watching".

Azumanga Daioh X Peanuts, Some Ruminations

A "crossover" of sorts. The Azumanga Daioh bunch drawn in the style of
the Black Lagoon anime. Sorta kinda what Charles Addams would have
done had he been Japanese.

                                            Azumanga Daioh X Peanuts

                                                 Some Ruminations

                                                             by

                                                                 Jay Agan

While spending a Saturday afternoon at Armagedicon 6/Anime Punch last April, I spent too much time at the Aardvarktees booth watching You Tube anime spoofs. The majority of them parodies of Azumanga Daioh. The semi-demented proprietor of Aardvarktees, Weatherly Hardy, remarked that Azumanga Daioh was what Charles Schulz would have done had he been Japanese (Or was it that Peanuts was what Kiyohiko Azuma would have done had he been American? Oh well.). That thought had occured to me off & on as well.

Charles Schulz & his creations were well into "slice of life" way long before the term was even invented. With his alter ego, Charlie Brown, he explored the everday world through the eyes of his child characters giving not only laughs, but also insight into how the world & human nature interact. At times biting & even harsh, other times thoughtful or comedic. Always having one nodding ones head in knowing aknowledgement.

It is through the characters of both works that we see the goings on of the workings of the world. It is where I have drawn a few parallels between the two franchises (I left out Yukari & Minamo as they are older versions of Tomo & Yomi respectively. The less said of  Kimura the better.).

1. Sakaki/Charlie Brown- Withdrawn, shy, at times indecisive. Things don't always go well. Both have hang-ups & passions/obsessions that lead to distraction. Cats don't like Sakaki. Charlie can't keep a kite in the air to save his life.

2. Tomo Takino/Lucy van Pelt- The seven deadly sins & then some. Meanace to one & all. Personal motto: "Head games r' fun!" Viscious, nasty, mean, cruel, spiteful, bullying, LOUD, manipulative, offensive, insulting, & at times violent. Oh yes, rotten. Insert any other negative adjective here.

3. Chiyo-chan Mihama/Linus van Pelt- Incredibly smart & insightful though quite naive. Easily manipulated off onto tangents & can be quite emotional. Both have their "refuges": Linus has his security blanket. Chiyo her detatchable pigtails (YES! It's true! They ARE detatchable. We've all seen it. Just ask Osaka. She sees every {any} thing!).

4. Koyomi "Yomi" Mizuhara/Schroeder- Contientious, studious, considerate, patient, but both have their limits. Schroeder retaliates with his piano. Yomi lashes out with an uppercut to the jaw.

5. Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga- In her own little world (It's OK. They know her there.). Depending on what she's doing, dreaming, saying or thinking(?), she could easily be either Snoopy or (Philosophically speaking.) Pigpen.

6. Kaorin/Woodstock- A couple of messed up little birds. She has anxiety attacks & hyperventalates. He twitters & flitters.

7. Kagura/Peppermint Patty- Outgoing, friendly, energetic, & athletic. Optimistic & encouraging though bewildered by the dejection of others. Particularly of Sakakis' "otherness" or Charlies' indecisiveness.

Peanuts as teens anime style. L-R Lucy van Pelt, Linus van Pelt,
Charlie Brown.

You can probably come up with some comparisons of your own. Have fun.
