The set's not hooked to cable or antenna. It picks up only one channel. A very private one. Unlike cable, it always has something good on. No matter the time, whatever is playing is just starting as I tune in. How can this be? It's my video collection. Hi, I'm Jay. Out On A Date PT4
Out On A Date PT4
I've always liked Charles Bronsons' movies. The guy couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag, but then he didn't have to. His films are always enjoyable.
You're probably wondering what that has to do with dating. Well it seems Mr. Bronson & I, though we never met, both shared a dislike in a mutual aquaintance.
As stated in Out On A Date Pt1, I dated his neice a couple of times. What little she told me of her famous uncle in our brief (very) relationship was they didn't like each other very much. Understandable. After having been abruptly dumped & figuring out why MUCH later, I can see why he didn't care much for her. Scheming little ...
Being Plan B would not have been so bad if it happened Plan A didn't work out for her BEFORE we started dating, catching her on the rebound so to speak. Being Plan B while she was STILL WORKING on Plan A is ... well ... sucks. Especially if A "pays off" & there's no need for B, thus getting dumped.
It's been quite a few years & I know I shouldn't be harboring any resentment over it. Live & learn as they say ...
Sometimes though, I still get to thinking ... there could be no better punishment for her than to have her forced to watch ALL her uncles' films back to back for eternity ... with me sitting right next to her ... enjoying the show.
"Pass the popcorn hon."
Yeah ... I'm full of myself ... And lovin' it!

Dang! Part 4, Once Upon A Time In The West

So I was visiting the folks some years back when after dinner, Mom settled in for a movie on TCM: Sergio Leones' Once Upon A Time In The West. Having seen it a time or two before, I fully expected whatever would happen next in the course of the film. Mom however, not having seen it, did not.
The brutal gunning down of the family early in the film certainly got an "Oh, dear!" out of her. What happened next really took her aback.
The family laying dead in the dirt, only the little boy to finish off. Boots & spurs shuffle/clink through the dust & stop before the lens. Camera slowly pans up the figure connected to the grimy footwear, stopping on the angelic (With slightly demonic expression.), blond haired, blue eyed face of ..... Him.
"Oh my God!" Mom Exclaims. "Is that Henry Fonda?!"
"Sure is."
Quite unexpected for anyone who hasn't seen this picture. One usually doesn't see Henry Fonda playing against type in a bad guy role, especially as mean & nasty as he is in Once Upon A Time In The West.
Years later, I got the DVD & viewed the extras. One was an interview with Fonda describing how he prepped himself for the role by "looking like a bastard", dying his hair brown, mustache, & brown contacs. On seeing him, Leone told him in no uncertain terms that was not the "look" he wanted Fonda to have in the film.
He wanted Henry Fonda to look like ..... Henry Fonda. Leone wanted it so when the audience first saw his face they would say, & I quote: "Jesus Christ! It's Henry Fonda!"
That got a few yucks 'n chuckles out of me as I recalled my Moms' reaction. Yes Mr. Leone. It certainly worked with her.

Out On A Date
Out On A Date

I met her at a little Assembly of God church I attended in the 70s. After some time I asked her out. She said yes.
We went to the movies at the Knox Auto Theater (Interestingly enough, the flick was an entertaining little number called Drive In. For the title music click here.). As we talked before the show I found that she had an uncle named Charles Bronson. Yes, THAT Charles Bronson. Kool! After some coaxing, I found they didn't care much for each other. OK.
There was some resemblance. Before your mind wanders, I have to say she was a good looking kid & didn't look at all like "Il Bruto". For a couple of weeks I thought I was about to aquire a girlfriend but things didn't pan out.
On our second & last date, we went to see The White Buffalo starring you know who. She wasn't quite thrilled with that. (It's a bat-crazy, bizzare, little western! Too bad it hasn't come out on disc yet.) She informs me part way through the movie she's interested in someone else (Should have started up the car & driven her back home. Guess I was enjoying the flick too much.). She even had the nerve to bring the "new guy" (Some "pretty boy".) to church & I started thinking in terms other than salvation. Me bitter? Nawww! (Grrrrrrrrrr!)
I'll always like her uncles' movies (Have a few in my collection.) but just like him, I'm not too crazy about HER. There's an old saying: "Don't do business with anyone you meet in church." Guess that goes for dating too.
