RahXephon And Your Tax Dollars On Guard

Ok ... So you probably came here to copy this wallpaper rather than
read the article. So what ... You still added to my blogs' hit count.

RahXephon And Your Tax Dollars On Guard

A few days ago, I placed a large (For me.) order of goodies to Amazon. As Amazon patrons know, a lot of other companies "piggyback" through Amazon and you can find some good deals on DVDs, new or used. Between Amazon, Half Price Books and Big Lots, I'm pretty well set.

One of the "piggyback" companies got their item to me in five days, a copy of RahXephon The Complete Collection: 26 episodes plus movie. When I got the item from my mailbox, I did a double take. The package had been ripped open.

I noticed the envelopes' plastic bubble insulation was intact and nothing wrong with the item. Was someone "checking" on the item? Looking at the envelope, I noticed there was no company label. Rather the return address was handwritten, not in the companys' name but that of who I assume to be the owner of the company. A quite "generic" Arabic/Islamic seeming name.

The envelope also was stamped "MEDIA MAIL (Subject to Inspection)" in two places.

Let's see:

1.) A handwritten manila envelope with bulky (Two VHS sized cases containing several discs each.) object inside.

2,) Said envelope is ripped open.

3.) "Exotic" name on envelope along with ...

4.) Two "MEDIA MAIL (Subject to Inspection)" stampings.

I wonder ...

Never before have I felt so wanted, loved, TRUSTED and protected.

So how come I don't feel so secure?

My viewing of RahXephon for the next few days is going to be "colored" by the above. Not only will I be watching for Mulians and Dolmens but also for Al-Qaeda, Homeland Security, and the U.S. (going) Postal Service.

Paranoia will destroy ya ...

Worst Worst Case Scenario

Worst Worst Case Scenario

by

Jay Agan

Pop in the disc, we're off.....

FBI Warning. The Fat Boys Institute! "If you copy this disc, we'll be really sore at you."

The MPAA is watching you! Wooooooooooooo!

You wouldn't snatch a purse. You wouldn't steal a dvd. You wouldn't download a car. Piracy is a crime, me hearties. Arrrrrrrr!

Stockholm Agreement (Darn Swedes!): The UN on the job. Don't watch this flick at church, school, lunch, on the can, or any where else we don't want you to. Otherwise we'll sic Interpol, KGB, Gestapo, Kempetai, DVD, BVD, LSMFT, & any other alphabet soup we can think of on your sorry butt. Don't think so? Try us! We're mean! Oh yeah. Don't take this disc on an oil rig either. You might start another gulf spill.

Stockholm Agreement (Them Swedes again.): En Francaise. We bite our thumb at you!

Stockholm Agreement. Bore you to death en Espanol. Si! Si!

Stockholm Agreement (Now in Swedish.) Ja! Ve bane gonna put such a thump awn yew an, oh forget it!

3+ trailors of flicks you could care less & less about. Usually from the "independent" studio wot sold them to......

The distributing studio logo. Complete with fanfare, music, spfx, etc. Metro, Goldwyn, Golan & Globus present.......

If its an anime (usually a collaborative effort), 4+ logos of studios from 2+ other countries along with their respective fanfares, music, spfx, etc. (Banzai Visual et al)

The opinions, statements, commentaries, nasty rumors, & back bites on this disc do not necessarily reflect those of the staff, management, flunkies, & covert operatives of Yadda Yadda Studios, or of their respective affiliates & tax shelters. However, any distress on your part would be considered a plus.

THX! The audience is sleeping.

The originating studios' logo. Also with its respective fanfare, mucous, and spfx, etc.
THE FLICK.

Do ... not ... get me started on the 15+ minutes of end credits. Who catered, who did the laundry, who was "with the band", who ... SEE!? Ya got me started!

I know! I KNOW! You can always skip through it (or prestop, stop, then menu) (on some you can't). But hey! I love a parade. Don't you?

Was wandering around the DVD section of Best Buy a few weeks ago & stumbled on what I thought, at first, to be a potentially amazing phenomenon. In the horror section, I found they were selling copies of Night of the Living Dead (Dimension Films/Dimension Extreme Entertainment label.) No big deal to my way of thinking. A lot of companies sell this public domain film, especially around Halloween. I wasn't thinking of buying it, (Already have it.), but took a peek anyway.

Examining the box I found something interesting on the back:

"WIDESCREEN VERSION PRESENTED IN A FORMAT PRESERVING THE 1:33:1 ASPECT RATIO OF ITS ORIGINAL THEATRICAL EXHIBITION"

Really.(!?) Those who see the discrepency here don't need an explanation. As for those who do, click here & here. It would take too much space & time to explain otherwise. As for space & time .....

"Hmm. This is unique," I thought, & bought it anyway. This promised to be a breakthrough in how man percieves the universe & the very essence of existance itself. And I could see it happening right in my own living room! I took it home & popped the disc into the machine.

You can only imagine my disgust/disappointment when the set didn't explode &/or vanish into the next dimension.

By the way. It was fullscreen.

"Reviewing" Movies Not Seen

                                                       "Reviewing" Movies Not Seen

                                                                               by

It's easy. Especially from a negative stand point. After all, you know what you don't like better than what you do. If a film is about something(s) you don't care for, then you know right off the bat the flick stinks.

For instance. To me, all musicals are crud. How do I know this, especially in light of the fact I've never seen the vast majority of them? Easy. Nothing ticks me off more than when a story comes to a slamming stop & the "actors" go into a 10+ minute song & dance. So what if the music, coreography, etc. are great? The story's been put abruptly on hold & I have to wait for the grand mal to pass. Get on with the movie for cryin out loud! I swear. If they subtracted the howling & hoofing, most musicals   would be less than half an hour. I exaggerate, but it sure feels that way. I avoid musicals like AIDS & ebola.

Any film, of a subject matter &/or "message" I don't care for, is one I probably won't like & will not bother to look at. This way, I know a flick is garbage from the start & won't waste my time. I guess that makes me closed minded & lazy. Life is too short for "broadening my horizons".  Too many "good" films are out there to see without drek getting in the way.

Take Avatar, for instance. I've not seen it, have no intention doing so. I know it's one I won't care for. How so?

     1. Reading the reviews (pro & con, mostly pro) gave warning as to what a pretentious pile of PC it is.

     2. It's been done before. I've seen Return of the Jedi. Dances With Wolves is in my collection, the Ewoks win again (yawn). "Revisionist westerns" aren't my thing.

     3. The previews make it out to be another cgi lightshow (cue the oohs & aahs).

     4. I'm really getting tired of that blue goon smugly leering at me from the dvd shelves at the stores.

One does not have to see a film in order to make an informed descision. Getting enough info from the warning signs, one does not have to drive into the river to know the bridge is out.
