The "Princess" and the Pee: An Angel Beats Anime Fan Fiction Story
Yui makes use of the "facilities" one time too many ... A riff off a scene from Episode 6: Family Affair.

"YO! ... SENSEI! ... I GOTTA' PEEEEE!"
"Sighhhh! ... Oh, man!"
Leaning back in his desk chair, the young blue haired man gazed exasperatingly up at the light ballasts and ceiling fixtures. Class not even fifteen minutes in and it was ... what ... the fifth? ... sixth? ... time she LOUDLY(!) announced to teacher, class ... the whole freakin' world ... her intentions to use the facilities ...
And in such a crass, vulgar manner!
"You again? ... Very well," the teacher also seemingly resigned to it, "... go ahead."
"Man! If only the teachers were this easy when we were alive," thought Hinata.
"Things sure would have been a lot less complicated."
A light whack on the shoulder had the young man shift his vision rightward to that of a diminutive, pink tressed "goth goblin" leering a toothy grin downward as she passed.
"Really hafta' go this time," conspiratorial look in her eyes. "Gonna' use the teachers' unisex single down the hall."
Hideki watched her saunter out.
On Yuris' orders, members of the Battlefront were to attend classes. Partly to avoid another mass contemplation room confinement but also to create disturbances in order to see how far Ayoto Naoi, the Acting Student Council President and his "zombies" could be pushed before retaliation. The infractions would also keep them from getting too "into" their classes and possible "obliteration" ... which was probably what the little dictator wanted.
The methods varied:
Hisako, TK, Fujimaki and Matsushita were busy "infracting" in a hot Mahjong session at the center of first row.
Two rows over, a VERY self conscious Oyama nervously contemplating a try at sneaking something to crunch on from a party size bag of chips.
Takamatsu in hard calisthenics an aisle over.
Noda, the formidable moron, lay across two desks in an attempt at snooze, impairing the ability of two other students in their work thus in violation of Yuris' instructions not to impede others.
An obvious though quiet distraction being "staged" by Shiina in the back corner of the window row, balancing scissors, ruler and a broom on the fingertips of one hand in vigorous focus training.
As for the hyperactive dingbat Yui, her non-method seemed to be continually requesting bathroom breaks, leaving for a short interval then return ... to repeat the "process" over and over ad nauseum.
Hinatas' own "nauseum" was really getting to him.
A sideways glance to his buddy seated in the desk behind, he asked, "Just what does that little ... dipwad ... think she's doing? You'd think she'd try something else ... And why the teachers restroom this time around?"
"Act of defiance maybe?" Otonashi in answer
"And she didn't have to tell me she actually HAD to go this time."
"She likes you."
"Say WHAT!?" The blue hair turned full around toward the carrot top.
"Oh, come on," Otonashi urged. "She's always had a thing for you. She-"
"She brings me nothing but grief! Ever since the ball game she's been a total pain in the a-"
"You just don't know a good thing when you see it," explained Yuzuru, "I mean ... She's pretty cute, y'know?"
"Otonashi ... You are one SICK dude!"
xxxxx
"Hmmm ... I've seen that Naoi guy use the teachers loo before," Yui in thought traveling down the hallway past the student restrooms. "Probly' thinks he's privileged 'r somthin' just 'cause he's the new Council head."
In fact she'd seen the creepy one and an NPC enter it two "trips" ago.
"They gotta' be outta' there by now. If he can ... I can! Class warfare it is!"
Cautiously, Yui softly knocked below the plainly marked "Faculty/Staff Only" sign. No response, she quietly opened the now unlocked door. Peering in revealed the space devoid of anyone.
"Huh? ... What's this?" On entry, puzzlement on espying the object recessed in the wall.
"Oh yeah!" Realization lighting a weak filament 40 watt inside her pink and twin tail strapped cranium.
"Guys ... Standing up ... right!"
Fascinated, the girl fixated on the wall urinal while backing up to the throne.
Reaching under the pleated blue uniform skirt she slid her unmentionables down and proceeded to sit.
"HOLYSONOFAWHATTHE- ... AAAAAAA-!!"
XXXXX
"... so you see Otonashi," explained the blue hair, "there's NO WAY I could ever feel any attraction to that little whack-job, why she's-"
"-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!"
The more than audible scream could be clearly heard by one and all on the building floor.
"It's Yui!" A more than concerned looking Hinata exclaimed, launching out of the desk chair and toward the door to the hall. "That damn Naoi, if he's-"
"Yup!" Hinata thought watching his friend rush past to the demented ones' rescue. "No attraction at all ... RIGHT!"
Also launching up, Otonashi shouted a hasty "excuse us" to the "teacherbot" as he ran to assist.
Hideki was already halfway down the hall when the red head got out the door.
"Yeah it's obvious," he wryly sarcasted to himself. "No feelings for the little whack-job ... PERIOD!
"Speaking of which ..."
The aforementioned little whack-job fast-walked out a well ajar unisex door and past a now confused and adrenaline hyped Hinata.
"Wh- ... What's wrong? You OK? You're not hurt or anything, are you?" Almost pleading. "If that Naoi did anything to you, I'll- !"
"It's NOTHING!"
"Don't tell me that, what's-"
"NOOOOTHING!"
The royally aggravated one stalked on back to the classroom, fists clenched, shoulders hunched, face in hellish grimace and in no uncertain terms not wanting to discuss an-y-thing.
Passing a puzzled ginger who noted the back third of her skirt was sopping wet, she pivoted into the classroom. Returning to her seat at the front window desk, arms crossed, she sat herself down ... hard. The act of which with an extremely audible squish.
"Hmmmph! Hnnnngh!"
Turning his gaze back down the hall, Yuzuru saw a fast approaching and laughing(?) Hinata returning from having had a look inside the small restroom.
Holding his sides and trying not to be too loud in his gasping and wheezing (And utterly failing!), Hinata staggered past and in. Otonashi following.
"A-heep! ... Durrrp! ... Gak! ... Oh God!"
"What ha-"
" ... eeeeeh! .... Seat!"
"Huh?"
" ... Seat! ... " Hinata coughing/gagging and weakly collapsing into his desk chair. "Someone left the freakin' seat UP! ... Aww ... BWA! HA! HA! HA! HAA! HAAAAAAAA!"
"SHUT UP YOU!" From the front window corner of the room.
"So Yui," a smiling Hisako looking up from her game tiles, "you fall in or something?"
Matsushita hung onto the game desk, heaving silently in laughter, rattling the tiles.
"Good thing you didn't grab the handle in getting yourself out," Fujimaki in accompaniment. "Then you'd be dizzy as well as wet!"
"Swir-leee!!" TK
Oyama looked on in amused bewilderment.
The reclining Noda, on his part, grinning with one eye open surveying the unfortunate one.
Takamatsu, in the middle of a "cruncher", froze in wonderment.
Shiina, having set her balancing objects aside, turned her back on the scene, concealing her own mirthful response. Being from another era, she recalled her own early encounters with Sir John Haringtons' invention (1) after arriving at this school in the In-Between.
"Aw c'mon, guys," Otonashi returning to his desk, "she's been through enough, she-"
"CAN IT! ... ALLA' YAS!" Again from the front window corner.
"Please keep it down a little." The 'robo-teach' commanded. "We are having class here."
Recalling Yuris' instructions, the extremely amused Battlefronters suppressed their din though subdued giggles and laughter from various parts of the room still evident.
The class session continued and for the next ten minutes, with front members engaging in their diverse infractions, a relative peace prevailed until from the front window corner-
"YO! ... SENSEI! ... I GOTTA' PEEEEE!"
From the back, a lamenting Shiina.
"This is soooo ... "

Angel Beats Hells' Kitchen OVA: I Don't Think I'll Bother

"Tense" moment involving Nodas' grudge with Otonashi. My guess is Noda gets killed first.
Angel Beats Hells' Kitchen OVA: I Don't Think I'll Bother
I was awaiting this with baited breath until I skimmed the reviews. The one in the Wikipedia episode list goes:
Set between episodes two and three, during Golden Week, Yuri arranges for the SSS to go on a deadly picnic, which involves most of the members trying to kill each other with various traps and gadgets. Sensing an opportunity, Girls Dead Monster members Miyuki and Shiori conspire to kill Iwasawa and seize control of the band from her. As the boys largely fall victim to various traps, leaving just Otonashi alive, Miyuki and Shiori attempt to lead Iwasawa into various pitfalls, but she survives each one while remaining completely oblivious. They attempt to use their last trap, a dreadful concoction, with the help of Shiina, but it instead lands on Hisako, who transforms into a bloodthirsty monster that not even Angel can stop. Sometime later, Miyuki and Shiori explain the events of the picnic to Yui and how they inspired the band to take on their current name.
Hmm ... sounds even goofier than the first OVA.
My estimate of Yuri has gone down a bit. She seems to be something of a sadistic little b---h in having your friends kill each other off.
While yes, in the Angel Beats world death has been reduced to the status of a punch in the nose, one would think at least a few in the Battlefront would be plotting to kill off Yuri or at least lock her up in a "contemplation" room where she couldn't harm anyone. This is the kind of "leader" I would NOT follow.
I'll just rate this as a curiosity and not consider it part of Angel Beats. Pretty much the way I'm getting to view the Evangelion "rebuild" films.
Just sayin' ...

There's Something About Yui: An Angel Beats/Hell Girl Crossover Fan Fiction Story
There's Something About Yui: An Angel Beats/Hell Girl Crossover Fan Fiction Story

Place: Comandeered Principals' office, aka Safe and Sound.
Time: The beginning of Episode 4, Day Game. Mid-morning and conclusion of Yuis' semi-final Gi-De-Mo audition and demise/ressurection.
"Hey!" Screamed Yui kicking aside the mic cord. "Don't IG-NORE me, darn it! There's-"
Business concluded with Yui, Yuri had turned to the assembled Battlefront members and already launched into plans for "sabotaging" the schools' baseball tournement. The plans being really nothing more than winning it. Somehow, she thought, this would affect Angel in a way so negative as to "hurt" her somehow.
"O-Kay, now listen up," Yuri continued, pacing laterally, oblivious to Yuis' protestations. "First thing, you gather up Front members, form your own teams."
Battlefront members hung on her every word.
Facing them, she stated ominously, "lose to any of the 'normal' student teams, it's a penalty death-match."
The Front made a collective gasp of breath.
"Why don't people pay attention t' me!?" Yui still rattling on. "I have a-"
Alternately watching Yuris' spiel and Yuis' altercating, Otonashi asked Hinata, "Yuri's pissed off at our failing at everything, isn't she?"
"It's part of the job to train each and every day. She's checking the results ... making sure we're in top form."
Hinata, reaching out, put his hand on the pre-occupied Otonashis' shoulder.
"Otonashi," he softly implored. "I REALLY neeed you, man."
Turning and putting his right hand to his faces' left side, Otonashi inquired, referencing to an earlier misunderstanding, "you sure you're not gay?"
"No-o! I-I need you for the team!"
Hinata put his arm around the carrot tops' shoulders, turning him away from the rest.
"Let's say you and me team up Otonashi. We're toast if we lose. Yurippe's that serious."
"I take it you have others in mind for this team of ours."
"Heh, heh! Just leave it to me, pal. I've been around here a really long time now and survived off my popularity quite well. We'll make one kick-ass team!"
xxxxx
Time: Several failed attempts at recriutment later.
Place: Behind the Teachers Building/Class Building B, upper level. The two doofuses heading east.
"So uh, we ARE going to get this team formed, right?"
"Oh yeah!"
"So far we struck out with getting Hisako, Matsushita and TK (So much for your popularity!). It's still just the two of us so we still need seven more players ... Isn't that a bit on the impossible side at this point?"
"Why you sayin' that Otonashi? Sure, most of the others may have been taken but I'm sure ... I mean ... We'll get SOME people. Even if we have to draft NPCs ... Anyone'll do I guess, anyone- gyah!"
The blue hair was brought up short on espying ... HER.
"-but ... THAT!
In their path, arms folded, left foot on the curb, the little, pink haired 'goth goblin' gave off a more than slightly smug/sinister air.

"Looks like yer in a biiiiind. Ha! Ha! Ha! Haaa!"
"My, if it isn't the death metal girl with the killer performance."
"Wha-!?" Not even taken momentarily aback, Yui dashed up to Hinata. "Do I LOOK like I'd do a gig like that!?"
"Mm hmn, yeah ... uh huh ... You betcha'!"
"Rrrrr!"
"So whaddaya' want anyway?"
"Y'need more members for your team, right?" Questioned she, sidling up and softly elbowing Hinata to the ribs. " ... I'd be a biiig asset."
"Asset!? You gotta be-" Hinata paused, hand to chin and got to thinking. "Wait a sec! If she got beaned ... get a ball dead in the face ... The pitcher'd be disqualified and she gets a walk to first ... Yeah! Could work!
"You're a big hitter! Perfect ... You're in!"
"You sure yer brain didn't melt and drip out through yer nose? Hiyaaah!"
"AAAAAGH!"
He didn't see the flying roundhouse kick coming.
"Why you sneaking, little ... ," lying on the ground. "I"m your upper classman!"
"Oh, ex-squeeze me? So sorry ... " Yui squatted down, giving an annoying rap to the back of her victims' head. "What I meant to say was, did your gray matter liquify and ooze out yer ears?"
"Hell no!" He said, catching Yui with a flying foot to the face.
"AIIIGH!"
Yui lay face down on the tiles.
"Sirrrr, that hurt."
"Quit complaining! I'm hurting too!"
"But it sure looks like she has great reflexes. Better than me."
"What's WITH you Otonashi? You want people to think we're friends or something with this screwball?"
Yui looked up. "That hur-hur-hurrrt!"
"I hate to bring this up man," Otonashi reminded, "but we haven't gotten anyone you had your heart set on, and game time's getting close."
"Hhnngh!"
"Yup! Yeah!" Yui was instantly back at Hinatas' side. "Saw the whoole thing. I especially liked the 'busom buddies' part with Matsushita ... Totally butch that one-"
"She's been following us?" Otonashi queried in thought.
"-So that's why I've come to offer my help, meww!"
"Mew!?"
Slooowly ... Hinata turned. Step by step, inch by inch.
"I ... dare ... you ... to ... say ... that ... again ..."
"O-Kay! ... ," head cocked to the side, smirky smile, hands up and crooked into 'cat paws'. "My help! Mewww ... eh-NYAAAH!"
In less than a space it takes to grab a breath, he had her sideways over his knee in a "backbreaker" lockhold.
![]() |
"DON'T DO THAT VOICE! You've no idea how irritating that is!"
"Aaaagh! Aaaargh! OW! OW! OW! OW! Uncle! Mattei! Mattei! Uncle! Uncle!"
"Could we please just get going?" Otonashi getting impatient.
"In a minute! I'm gonna teach this whackjob a- ... huh?"
He couldn't be sure. It wasn't even a fleeting illusion ... and yet ... Was that a-? It couldn't have been.
It wasn't possible but he was sure but for a split moment he saw a-.
Careful to keep his right hand outside of her blouse, he tracked his fingers up Yuis' spine. If there was something "extra", he just might find it.
"OW! OW! O- ... huh? What the-!"
Hinata didn't have time even trying to figure how she broke that hold. One moment she was in his power, at the convenience of his non-existent mercy ... the next ... jumping in all directions and "dancing" around him, screaming at the tops and bottoms of her lungs.
"HOLY SON OF A WHAT THE HECK! ... WHA' ZIS!? You gotta' back fetish 'r sumthin'!? ... Perv! ... Sicko! ... Man, I can't believe-"
"Hold on a minute! I-"
"But then again," again instantly at his side and again softly elbowing the ribs, "you just got a leeetle more interesting if you know what I mean. Play yer cards right kid, this could be yer lucky daaay!"
"With you? Like hell!"
"Aw c'mon, both of you," chided Otonashi. "We gotta' get going!"
Turning, Hinata whisperingly implored, "c'mon man! Need help here with this maniac ... she's practically propostioned me!"
"Well, she IS kinda' cute-"
"The day I'd ... with this ... "
"No! Really! She is."
"You're a sick man Otonashi."
Hand to the side of his face, Otonashi intoned, "are you REALLY sure you're NOT 'light in the loafers', I mean ... Even a little?"
"Now just a minute!"
xxxxx
Time: Last game of the school basball tournement. Team Hinata vs. Team Student Body.
Place: Ball diamond, athletic field.
"Man!" Hinata exclaimed inwardly. "We can pull this off! I know we can. Let's see ... Final inning, one point difference, our favor. They're up with two outs, runners on second and third ... If we can get an out on them ..."
On the pitchers' mound, a tired and sweating Otonashi called a time out. Turning toward second to confer with Hinata stationed there. The team leader, on his part walked to meet him.
"Look man, I really don't think I can hold 'em off," the carrot top explained. "You think maybe we could change pitch-"
The weird, far off look on Hinatas' sky searching face brought him up short.
"Hey! Hinata! ... Anything wrong?"
It had been one eventful tournament. In spite of being saddled with Yui (Oh geez!) and the last moment addition of her three next to worthless groupies, they had managed to survive two previous games and made it to the final against the actual school team led by Angel.
Of course it helped they were able to get on their team, Shiina and Noda who both did surprisingly well. Neither Yuzuru or Hideki thought the no experience Shiina, or the unstable Noda would be any good but they were. The surprising arrival of Matsushida at center field in time for the final (Having previously been on an earlier eliminated team then "bought" with Udon cafeteria tickets by Otonashi.) not only rounded the team up to the regulation nine but also helped mightily.
Hinata momentarily glanced to his left, the boisterous Yui yakking away on the sidelines.
What a pain in the posterior! Like her three accompanying "fans", she was a guaranteed strike-out almost every time. And more than once, he had to "restrain" her (Backbreaker locks!) for borderline unruly conduct and making stupid threats to the umpire and opposing teams.
Once, he had to put her in a hold to keep himself from laughing. "Wipe yer butts!"? The proper term was "KICK yer butts!", the former being a hygiene measure. It helped he was royally ticked off at her already as it made it easier in keeping any potential giggles down. It was almost cute in the way she said it. She-
"Cute? ... Her!?, " he having a chilling thought. "Hold on Hideki, you-"
"Hey! ... What's wrong? Hey, Hinata?"
"Uh ... ," the blue hair snapped to. "This ... is familiar."
"Familiar? How do you mean?"
Hinata scanned the field and continued.
"Back when I was ... alive ... I ... I went through a similar situation. Just like you see it now ... Opposing men on second, third, we one point up. Probably the most important game I EVER played."
"Are you ... ? Man ... You're actually shaking."
"I am aren't I? Man ... That's weird."
"So what happened to you, if you don't mind my asking."
"Can't remember exactly. We were headed for the Koshien Nationals. Man was it HOT! All I could taste was the dirt in my mouth. That I DO remember.
"It was the last game for the regionals. Same situation I said before. They hit an easy pop fly to second where I was. Coming straight for me ... An easy catch.
"Did I catch it ... drop it? No way I can remember. Something that important ... How can I forget ... ?
"Heh ... I don't know. One would think to remember if caught or not. Maybe I didn't catch it after all ..."
Hinatas' wistful, vacant look sounded alarm bells in Otonashis' head.
"Are you ... going to disappear?"
"Say what!?" A skeptical look on Hinatas' face.
"You think you just might disappear if we win this one?"
"You kidding me? 'Course not!" Hinata answered semi-disdainfully, waving it off. "Obliterated ... over this? That's just crazy! It's only a game."
Otonashi had his doubts. He knew baseball was more than a game to the blue haired one.
"C'mon Otonashi!" Encouraged Hideki. "Get on that mound and finish the game. Win or lose ... I'll still be here."
Arriving back on the mound, Yuzuru checked and saw Hinata positioned back at second. A few seconds more, he wound up and heaved the ball where he hoped Nodas' mitt would be.
The semi-dull ping of aluminum on the ball signalled a high pop fly ... The trajectory ballisting straight toward a Hinata, in wonderment, on second. The scenario playing out.
"Holy-! ... NO WAY! ... Coming right to me ... just like back then, I-"
The same wistful reverie could be seen by Otonashi on the mound. Calling out his friends' name, the carrot top launched himself off the mound in a desperate dash to second.
"Would it be all over if I catch it? I'll bet it'd feel great. Oh Yeah! It'd feel amazing ... totally sweet ... "
"Hinata!" Yuzuru yelled, not wanting the only friend he had in this 'in-between' to vanish. "Don't catch it! You'll disappear!"
"Here it comes ... easy catch ... Up with the mitt and it's ... eh-NYAAAH!"

"This's what ya get for all those backbuster holds, ya jerk!"
"Runner in!" Sounded the Ump. "Score's tied!"
"Die! Die!" Screamed the pink tressed menace failing in her goal of Hinatas' paralyzation.
"Why! ... You! ... Little!"
Hinata rolled on his back, snapped up and enfolded the assailant with his legs and right arm while using the other for a stranglehold.
"Of all times!" Screaming back. "Why'd you have to flip out now!"
"OW! OW! OW! ... I'm sorry! I'll wait for a more opportune moment to kill ya next time! OW! Stop it! Stop it! Lemme go, I-"
"No way!"
"Yes way! OW!"
"Runner in!" Ump sounding again. "And ... GAME!"
"Agh! GOD!" A more than frustrated Noda at home plate yelled, slamming mask and mitt to ground. "THIS SUCKS!"
"Aaagh! Aaargh! Quit!" A pleading Yui. "I'm gonna' DIE!"
"That's the idea!" Stating an 'enthusiastic' Hinata. "I'll NEVER forgive you for this! I coulda' caught that ball!"
"No! Stop it!"
"Like hell! My happiness was on the line! Die! Die!"
Otonashi could only stand and watch.
From up the hill, from out the front office window of the appropriated principals office, a more than peeved Battlefront commander balefully gazed through the 57 millimeter lenses of the binoculars.
"Both of you ... Go ... die!"
xxxxx
Time: End of day.
Place: A small house in the "twilight".
Tail twitching in anticipation, Yui grinned happily as she walked up the cart trail to the small house atop the hill. Before going to report at the OTHER place, she would stop off and say hi to her little cousin ... And maybe exchange a few words with that cute guy who also lived there.
She had nothing but good things to report. In spite of a near discovery of who/what she actually was, she succeeded in not only causing some misery today but also in preventing a "mark" from getting out of reach.
"Gotta' be careful of letting my guard down," reminding herself. "Almost lost one too but that's taken care of for now."
She had her eye on that one for some time. Maybe if she showed more than enough bowing and scraping, obesience, groveling enough at the feet of ... HIM, she might get to keep this one for herself. He was almost adorable enough for her to want to go human again, in spite of what it was like the last time ... All that lying around in bed. It would have "floored" mom to find her up and moving around when Yui thought she wasn't near. It definitely would have killed her to find out who/what dad REALLY was.
"So it's been awhile," Wanyudo called out from the porch.
"On my way to report 'n thought I'd pay a visit."
Yui looked around noting only the "old man" and Honne-Onna.
"So where's everyone else?"
"Ren and the Miss are following up a contact," the bone woman explained, knowing who Yui was really asking about. "Ren may not be back for a while."
"Oh."
Her crestfallen look lasted only a moment. After all, she had someone back at the school even cuter and much more attainable in her sights.
"So where's Kikuri? I-"
"Yoooo-eeee!"
A small bolt of purple eyed lightening flashed around a corner of the house and into Yuis' arms. The goth-goblin struggled a bit lifting her.
"Yer gettin' big kid! How's-," her speech cut off espying the young man, seemingly some years older, following.
"A little young to be havin' a boyfriend aintcha'?"
"More like a door mat," the geisha from the porch remarked.
"Boy ... friend?" Kikuri wide eyed. "What's that? ... Waro?"
"I'll tell ya in a bit."
"Hi," the boy greeted. "I'm Yamawaro. The princess and I-"
Yui looked at Kikuri in mock puzzlement and smiled. "Princess, huh? Since when did YOU get promoted?"
"It's only something Yamawaro calls her." Explained Wanyudo.
"Why you here?"
"On my way to the lake and thought I'd stop by to see ya. Wanna come along with me?"
"Yay!" The little demon exulted as Yui set her down and they started on their short journey.
"Now what a boy friend is ..."
"Wait! Princess, I-"
"Yamawaro!" Wanyudos' calling brought the young man up short.
"But ... the princess-"
"You DON'T want to go there," the relic spirit cautioned.
"!?"
"It's O-kay Yamawaro," soothed the bone woman. "She was born there ... and they're both ... used to it."
Yamawaro watched as the two imps, hand in hand, continued on their way to the expansive lake in the distance (Matthew 25:41).
"And that's what a boy friend is. Y'know ... All kissy kissy 'n stuff."
"Ewwwww!"

"For a short while, we got to enjoy the youth we never had. I think our time here will have been worth it all if we were just supposed to have fun.
"And isn't that what life's supposed to be about?"
"What're you talking about?" Otonashi grinned. "I don't get it."
Hisako gave a knowing smile. "I bet not. But I think you will."
- From a conversation several days previous, just before the departure of the greater part of the Battlefront.
xxxxx
Steps to athletic field and sports facilities. Just after "graduation":
"Say ... Kanade," Yuzuru turned toward the petite vision that was she. "Let me ask you ... Could ... would you ... like to stay here?"
She answered in response with a puzzled stare.
The young man turned back, surveying the athletic field distant.
"It just occured to me for some reason ... I mean, there'll be more ... like Yuri, Hinata, Yui ... coming here because of tragic or inadequate lives. Many others just like them. Some even worse."
"Yes ..."
"They might try ... might try staying here like Yuri and the others did. Might suffer ... hating God ... thinking they're fighting Him when it's their lives they can't accept. For all eternity, forever alone ... with no one to help them ... tell them ... forever."
"Right ..."
"But then ... if we stayed ... We could show them how great life really was, all over again ... That life really was worth living, hard breaks and all. We could help others 'graduate' and go on.
"It's possible ... you ... me ... might have come here to ... fulfill that purpose ... Help them.
"Would you ... stay here ... With me? As long as you're with me ... I'd NEVER get lonely. Even here. Even here in this world."
Brushing a lock of snowy mane aside, Kanade looked down and started walking past him, contemplating this unexpected proposal. His love for him she more than knew.
But this sudden offer to ... stay?
"I might've said this before ... but I want to be with you ... I want to to stay with you always ... forever."
With a quick but gentle move, he reached forth in her effort to pass and drew her close to him.
"It's because I ... I love you so much ... Kanade ... love you ... I do."
They stood for several moments with her In his sideways hold, apprehension building within Yuzuru as he felt her tense.
"Why ... Why won't you say something?"
"I don't want to ... can't ..."
Yuzuru pulled back, looking straight at her. "Why not?"
"Because ... If ... If I tell you how I honestly feel, I ... I think that I will vanish-"
"But why!?"
"-without you ... us."
"Us? ... Without?"
"I came here ... long ago ... to this place ... to tell you ... Thank you for all that you've done for me."
"Wh-what d'you mean Kanade!?"
"My life," she turned facing him, putting her left hand above her breast, "my life was extended because ... Because of the beautiful, kind, heart you gave me."
Gasping, Yuzuru could only stare in his incomprehension.
"Even now, your heart is beating, living here ... I feel its' rythym here in my chest."
She turned partly away, hand still to her bosom.
"My only regret is ... I was unable ... to thank the one who gave me my youth. I wanted ... but couldn't express my gratitude.
"That was my feeling," turning back, her eyes looked deeply, longingly into his. "The lingering feeling that made me ... wander ... here ... so long ago ... into this world."
"It ... can't be ... It's not-"
Turning away, she walked to the reflecting pool and gazed upon the rippling surface.
"-I mean ... How could you possibly know it was me?"
"That first night when you came here ... when I stabbed you ... I noticed ... that you ... You didn't have a heart."
The young man grabbed his own chest, "but ... But that alone doesn't mean-"
"You regained all of your memories when you ... fell asleep on top of my chest ... You were listening to the rythym of your own heart beating within me."
"No! It ... It couldn't ... It-"
A sad, yearning smile on her face, she turned to face him again.
"Yuzuru? ... Please ... tell me ... Tell me again what you just said ... about loving me."
Short breaths, looking away, Yuzuru could only choke out, "Uh ... No! ... NO! ... I can't ... won't ... Kanade!? ... You'll disappear."
"Yuzuru ... Please!"
"No! ... I can't." Try as he might, he couldn't look away.
"And come with me Yuzuru."
"Come with!?"
"Your ... OUR time here ... is past ... over."
!?
"You're the reason I'm here ... and I you ... Yuri and the others ... were here for their own reasons. I was only in their way."
"In their way?" Incredulous, Otonashis' mind reeled in confusion. "How could your being here-"
"I was to wait for you ... to thank you ... It was my only real desire. My only purpose.
"In my waiting, I tried helping others pass on ... With a small few ... I did. It was with Yuri and the others, I realized I was only delaying their passing. Because of my efforts, she ... fixated on me ... thinking I was one of Gods' servants. In opposing me ... she and the others ... in thinking they were fighting God by fighting me ... were doing something they hadn't done when they were alive ... accomplishing something ... a goal of some ... any ... kind."
"But you only wanted to-"
"Good intentions ... coming from a good heart," she touched her chest again, "can at times ... make things worse for others.
"Don't make the same mistake as I, Yuzuru. Your task if any, was with them ... only them ... and it is done."
"But it could be that I-"
"You accomplished with them in only a few weeks what I ... couldn't in months ... years."
Yuzuru let out an involuntary gasp. Years!? She was ... Yuri and the Battlefront? ... THAT long?
"And don't break this wonderful, loving heart you gave me," she said, gazing up longingly, grasping his hands. "Come with me Yuzuru! I can't bear being alone any longer ... Where you and I will go ... We never will be again."
Stepping forward, her arms enfolded him about the waist, her head to his chest.
"Yuzuru, PLEASE!"
"I ... I ..."
"Yuzuru!?"
She was more than right. His only real reason for being in this fantastic place was to be thanked ... and loved ... by her. The Battlefronts' passing only incidental.
He remembered Hisako telling him but a few days before, to follow soon. Otherwise it would be as if they had only been persuaded into leaving and nothing more.
And his suggestion being so spur of the moment ...
Yes.
Time to leave.
"Please let me believe in everything you believe in."
Yuzuru broke down. The emotion too much.
A small hopeful smile on her angelic face, Kanade looked up into his.
"Let me believe ... that life is more than worth living."
Through his tears, he looked down, stroking her snowy hair.

"Yes! ... Let's go ... together ... now ..."
"Kanade," he answered her tight embracing with that of his own. "I do so love you ... Yes! ... Let's go ... together ... now ... "
"Yes ... Thank you ... Yuzuru."
"Let's stay together forever and always ... OK?"
"YES! ... Thank you!"
Their mutual hold became even tighter.
"I love you Kanade!"
"Yes ... Thank you so much ..."
"Kanade ..."
"Thank you for loving me."
"And I ... you."
"Truely ... deeply ... Thank you for giving me ... my ... our ... life to me ... "
As the soft wind meandered its' course, only the trees and flowing water gave mute testimony that a loving couple had, but for a moment before, embraced there.

There All Along
A Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya/Angel Beats Crossover Fanfiction
by
C V Ford
This story picks up in the first episode scene where Otonashi is introduced to the members of the Battlefront after reviving from being clobbered by the mallet trap.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
... The girl gestured with an index finger. "... Now listen carefully 'cause this is important:
"In our previous world, death didn't care. It went after people randomly & indiscriminately. It's not like we were actually able to defy it ... But here in this world, it's a whole different ball game. We can exist as long as we're resisting Angel ... We're fighting back."
"But wait ... Wait a sec," the newcomer intevened. "When all's said & done, what then? What are you trying to accomplish?"
"Our goal is to take out Angel once & for all." The speaker declared. "Once we do that, this world belongs to us."
"Huh?"
"You're new here so it's no surprise you're a bit confused ... Heighten your sense of adaptability & accept things as they are."
"Accept things ... ," the young man mulled it over, "& then fight ... against this ... Angel."
"That's right ... Stand with us," the speaker extended her hand.
The newcomer paused, "uh-"
The other nine in the room looked on anxiously as the young man hesitantly reached to recieve.
The sudden commotion of a roughly thrown open office door drew everyones' attention to a furious apparition twirling a halberd above his head.
"Hold on a minute!"
The mallet trap sprang for the second time in as many hours, sending the hostile one flying.
"Moooron!" someone exclaimed facepalming.
"Dumbass fell for his own trap," said another looking on.
Looking over the shoulders of three others at the window staring at a broken body three stories below, the stranger queried, "that's ... what happened to me?"
Everyone turned their eyes back to the interrogator as she, seemingly unconcerned, continued.
"You need a password to enter Safe & Sound. This office is our anti-Angel strategy headquarters. It's the only safe place where we can talk & make plans."
"Uh ... Could you ... give me some time to think about this?"
"'Sure I can ... Anywhere but here though."
"Eh ... err ... hnn ..." He hesitated. It wasn't as if he had anyone/where else to turn to. A hostile 'Angel' roaming about. A seemingly ineffective school faculty/organisation. This bunch looked to be the only ones with anything going. They were organized, had their act together. They had a reason ... a purpose. Albeit a seemingly very negative one. But still ... A lone wolf wasn't going to get far or cope well with this situation ... they had something. And he needed to bide his time & straighten things out for himself.
"Hmm?"
"Ehrr ... All right, fine!"
The group heaved a collective sigh.
"O ... K . What's the password?'
"There is no God, Buddha or angel,'" the speaker stated as she advanced & shook the young mans' hand. "Welcome aboard. I'm Yuri ... leader of this name changing Battlefront.
"And this is Hinata ... ," indicating to her left. "He's just as lazy as he looks but sometimes he pulls through."
"Hn ... yeah," the new intro smiled then brought himself up short. "Hey! That's no compliment!"
The leader flourished to her right pointing out a heavily built gentleman. "The big guy here is Matsushita ..."
"Hehh, she's ignoring me!" Hinata muttered.
"He's a 5th dan belt in judo so we call him 'Matsushita the 5th' in respect."
"Nice to meetcha'." The big fellow wrapped his sizable mitt over the newcomers'.
"Hn!" Hinata looked on, still smarting from the 'compliment'.
Pointing to the back of the group at a somewhat squeamish looking individual, Yuri said, "this one's Oyama. His special talents are he doesn't have any."
"Welcome to the Battlefront man," said the diminutive one shaking his hand.
"Dance to the beat!" A blindfolded apparition leaped in front of him pointing both indexes. "Don't fear the reaper!"
"I don't dance guy."
"That's his way of saying hi. We call him TK but no one knows his real name. Even I don't have any idea what his deal is."
"Rockin' to the groove! Feelin' it? Feel it!" TK gyrated.
"What exactly is this guy on? I could use some right now."
She continued with the intros. "The guy constantly straightening his glasses trying to look intelligent is Takamatsu ... He's not particularly bright though"
"Huh?"
"Very nice to meet you." Straightening glasses.
"Uh ..."
"This here is Fujimaki."
"Fujimaki's the name, punk!" The sword bearer challenged.
"I'm not a punk-," the stranger answered looking away.
"That guy who went flying was Noda."
"The girl lurking in the shadows who keeps saying 'this is so stupid' is Shiina ... " A still, silent figure stared balefully from out of the north east corners' gloom, sizing him up.
"And sitting here," Yuri indicated the red haired young lady leaning against the end of a couch, "is Iwasawa. She leads the diversionary unit.
"There's a couple dozen others around the school who are also members of Battlefront.
"OK, that's all of us now, who are you?"
"Uh, um, O ... O ... Oto ... Otonashi ..."
"First name?"
"Can't remember."
"The whole amnesia scenario eh?" Hinata speculated then reassured, "don't worry. It'll come back eventually."
"Hey, wait a minute!" Matsushita. "Shouldn't we give him a uniform?"
"Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that."
"So tell me," Otonashi asked as he compared his slashed & battered shirt with the khaki blazers of the men. "Why's my uniform different? From all of yours I mean."
"Oh yours isn't different, ours is," the leader seated herself behind the desk putting her feet up. "What your wearing's the normal student uniform. This uniform is just for us. We ... are class SSS. Shinda Sekai Sensen. The Battlefront."
Otonashi noted the heraldic shield shoulder patch. Three runic Ss' over laurel trim with scroll banner under stating: Rebels Against the God.
Hinata put his hand on Otonashis' shoulder. "C'mon buddy, let's see what we can dig up for you.I'm sure we can find something."
Turning to go with Hinata, the newcomer brought himself up short.
"Oh ... uh ... who's she?"
"Who's what?" The Front leader answered.
"The girl near Shiina ... In the chair at the end of the bookcase reading. You didn't introduce her."
"Say what?" Yuri quick turned her head for a look at the case.
"I noticed her right after I came to. She's been there quiet this whole time."
Shiina advanced toward the cases' end.
"Yeek!
The ninja girl sprang back, knives drawn. The rest let out a collective gasp. As Otonashi said, a bespectacled young lady sat where he indicated, closing her book & calmly scanning the room.
"Impossible!" Shiina exclaimed. "How could she ... I would have noticed her!"
The group murmured. This was serious. As everyone knew, NOTHING got by Shiina ... & yet ...
"Wait a sec," said Yuri launching herself over the desk. "Who ... & how did she-?"
"You don't know?"
All eyes (but Shiinas') turned toward the one making the question.
"What're you talkin' 'bout Oyama?" Fujimaki asked.
"Uh ... she's a member ..."
"Of what?"
"Er ... the Battlefront ... Ever since we started. She's-"
"Hold up!" Yuris' hand in a stop position, eyes shifting between Oyama & the girl. "You ... know her?"
"Well ... Yeah ... don't you? Her name is-"
"How're we supposed to know her? I'm the leader," she panned accross the group noticing their mutual confusion, "& I'VE never seen her before. Other than you ... It seems none of us have."
"Again," Otonashi interrupted in reiteration. "I noticed her when I woke up here. She's wearing the same uniform so I assumed she's with you."
The Front members turned in unison again to the seated figure. True enough, the percieved interloper was clad in the blue & white girls uniform of the SSS.
"Kinda' reminds me of Angel," observed Matsushita noting the girls' calm demeanor as well as dead pan non-expression.
With that, the hostility quotient rose a few notches.
"A spy no doubt," Takamatsu speculated, "and not a very good one."
"Good enough to get by us ... AND Shiina," countered Yuri.
An audible growl emitted from the ninja girl ready to spring.
"Wait! ... Guys! ... She's one of us! Really!"
The bunch looked back at Oyama.
"I'm tellin' ya ... She's been with us from the beginning. Came with the room I guess. I remember seeing her in here a lot when it was still the principals office."
"So how come none of us ever noticed her 'til now?" Yuri inquired. "And that was when our newbie just pointed her out."
"I don't know ... She's sat here with us often enough ... In on our operations planning ... voted with us on everything. We've stepped around her often enough. I mean ... She's quiet ... more so than Shiina & Yusa combined."
"Yusa?" Otonashi.
"Our scout & spotter." Hinata explained. "She's usually out running around with that cel of hers keeping Yurippe informed of anything happening on campus."
"Why hasn't she tried to communicate?"
"She's talked often enough ... No one seemed to notice. I talk with her ... Come to think of it ... She's the only one who ever really ... talks to ... me."
"Great!" Fujimaki exclaimed tauntingly. "Not only we have TWO 'new' members but Oyama here has a girlfriend."
With some muted laughter all around, the tension, if not the scepticism, eased up to a marked degree with the exception of the still on full alert Shiina.
"It's not like that!" The flustered 'pure boy' exclaimed. "Though .. I wish it ... was."
Oyama gasped as he, along with everyone else, noticed the stranger looking straight at him, a slight smile on her face.
"Way to go buddy!" A surprised/impressed Fujimaki softly elbowed Oyama. "Looks like its just that."
"Whimper ... "
Deciding on direct action, Yuri brushed past Otonashi & slowly approached the bluish gray haired young lady still seated.
"O-K ... " she said signalling for Shiina to back off. "From appearances you SEEM to be on our side ... Though I have my doubts."
"I am." No hesitation in her whispery reply.
"And ... as Oyama says ... You've been with us from the start ... correct?"
"Yes I have."
"All right. Now for the really important question ... What IS your name? ... Just who ARE you?"
The young lady did a slow blink then adjusted her glasses in almost the same slightly irritating way Takamatsu did.
"Yuki Nagato."

Angel Beats Episode 4.5
Oh Geez!
by
Jay Agan
Have just seen the Angel Beats OVA (episode 4.5), & wish I hadn't. I guess I'll start with the premise.
Scheming to get face to face with GOD (Insert lightning flashes & peals of thunder.), Yuri cooks up a plan (Operation High Tension Syndrome) wherin everyone pretends to be fired up/enthused over school activities for a period of 12 hours. Of course, since they're faking it, & thus not finding "fulfillment", none of the gang will vanish "in the twinkling of an eye" (Take THAT, Hal Lindsey!). This is to confuse Angel/Kanade into thinking something isn't quite right in the "matrix" & she'll run to the Supreme Being and report. Yuri & co. are to follow her and finally confront the "Uncaused First Cause". If the operation is unsuccessful, everyone (Except Yuri) is to go on a seven day waterless fast!
This is kind of like the dog who chases cars. What's he gonna do with it if he ever catches one? I'm no theologian but I think God's a little bigger than a Buick & I'm including the 1960s/70s "Deuce & a Quarter" in that estimation. Details ..... details .....
Did I say the gang was to be fired up? More like exploding! To anyone who wanted to see other members of the SSS be more like Yui (An irritatingly hyperactive, though lovable, moron.) here's your chance. Hyper they are (And LOUD!) but minus Yuis' endearing charm. Never before, have I seen so many characters be so obnoxious & annoying at one time. They make the Three Stooges look like paragons of reserve & civility. Classes & halls are disrupted with gang members personality traits amplified beyond max tolerance levels. It's the invasion of the uber-Yuis with Angel & Otanashi vainly being characters for the viewer to identify with. The only thing more irritating is the omni present, beeping "high tension meter" in the lower left corner of the picture. Oh yes, Yui is "worse" than her usual self. Something I originally thought impossible.
I hope this isn't IT for the OVA. And I hope any further chapters don't get this extreme. I really like this series & any attempts to "pad" it out like this, could only hurt. I would not introduce newcomers to anime (Or this show.) with this ep.

Angel Beats: Not A Haruhi Clone
by
Jay Agan
One thing I've liked about anime is the willingness of the artists involved to try new concepts & ideas. Unlike the "safe"strategies followed by our animators, the Japanese "school" of animation exhibits a much greater willingness to experiment. To be sure it's pretty much hit or miss, but when it does hit, it can be an interesting viewing experience indeed.
One of these "hits" is Angel Beats. Even if an anime is seemingly of a sub-genre I don't care for, (In this case, cutesy, moe, school girl crap.), I'll take a chance if it has a plot/theme I might go for. Here, the high school schtick is merely part of the backdrop. In actuality, the show is a techno-theological, action thriller.
I've read some opinions likening this to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, some even going so far as to refer to this (& one of the protagonists) as a Haruhi clone. I beg to differ. This series is so different as to stand on its' own. The only "sameness" I could find is that one protagonist bears a very superficial resemblance to Haruhi. How many other anime series feature "magical", assertive/energetic, schoolgirls? Not too sure but I THINK there may have been a few.
On first viewing, I thought it was rather disjointed (Still do but much less so.) as well as violent & bloody. The final episode (More on this later.) however, made me want to rewatch the series.
Theologically, it has something for every one. A Catholic(?) purgatory (In the form of a large high school boarding academy.), where those whose lives were lacking in some way come to resolve failed experiences/mistakes, and unload spiritual/emotional baggage before "passing on" (It must be Purgatory. The data tech there is Windows!). Reincarnation is a factor. There is even a "rapture" element in the way those who find peace leave the scene. (I'm what some would call a Christian fundamentalist though I don't subscribe to the "gospel" of Hal Lindsey or Tim LaHaye.) No matter what faith/theology one follows, anyone willing to see past what might be looked on as "pagan/infidel" & focus on what's compatible, may find this show intrigueing.
The series centers around three main characters: The amnesiac, Yuzuru Otonashi who regains memory(s) overtime. Yuri Nakamura, a resentful girl who has it in for God due to a horrendous experience when she was alive. The target (Literally!) of Yuris' resentment is title character Angel/Kanade Tachibana. She's ostensibly there to enforce the "status quo" & help others find peace, sending them on their way. Due to Yuris' ongoing war with her, she's more preoccupied with countering (through VR tech-data manipulation) the operations of the Afterlife Battle Front, Yuris' band of "merry men". Thus all the gun & swordplay going on. Oh yes. Since you're already dead when there, you can't be killed. One usually "revives" a few minutes to a day later, either where you fall or in the schools' infirmary. Still hurts like, uh.....purgatory, though. Ouch!
The series is 13 eps long, packed with interesting twists & turns. Iwasawa, lead singer of the battlefronts' diversionary rock band (Girls Dead Monster) finds fulfillment in her music and disappears before one and all (ep 3). New enemies emerge (eps 5,7, & 10). (One, Naoi, joins the battlefront.) Differences with Kanade & Yuri are eventually ironed out (ep 7) then "rekindled" (ep 9). Yuzurus' memory is fully regained & back story told (Important!) (ep9). Yuri realizes the futility & waste in "fighting" God & has a "temptation of Christ" moment (ep 12).
It is during these events Yuzuru & Kanade "connect" & later conspire with two others to help Battlefront members gain fulfillment and leave the scene. One they succeed with is one of the more endearing characters of the show, Yui, a girl who had been paralyzed when alive & wanting to accomplish much. (Along with her slightly "gothed" attire, she sports a set of little bat wings in the small of her back and a spearpoint tail. Took me awhile to notice. Makes one wonder who she's working for. My guess it's an insider joke.) The ending of this characters' last scene (ep 10) is poignant & touching to say the least.
Many others, (Including the afore mentioned rock band.), partly on Yuris' suggestion & realizing the pointlessness of resisting God, life, & ultimatly, themselves, take their leave en masse (ep 12). The departures of most of the "principle fighters" of the battlefront take place between eps 12 & 13 & thus are not seen.
The anti-climactic 13th episode is a masterpiece of a heartbreaker that I guarantee at the end will .....TEAR..... YOU..... UP. Aptly titled: Graduation, the three principal characters & two others (Hinata & Naoi), hold a do it yourself high school grad ceremony as cloture & say their goodbyes. (I hope I'm as joyful & matter of fact as Yuri & Hinata when it's my time to meet the Lord.) See this episode past the powerful credits ending for FULL IMPACT. You have been warned.
"Let's meet again somewhere."
"See ya, buddy!"
