The set's not hooked to cable or antenna. It picks up only one channel. A very private one. Unlike cable, it always has something good on. No matter the time, whatever is playing is just starting as I tune in. How can this be? It's my video collection. Hi, I'm Jay. An occasional (very) voice actor lurking in the central Ohio hinterlands. And this is Jays' Tee Vee. My little corner of wierdness on the web. Movies, cartoons, anime. Oh yeah! ... WARNING ... Some politics.

Mysogynist Moment
Mysogynist Moment
I knew this fellow while working at the pistol range in Powell, Ohio. Gunsmith by trade, he later went into a career in EMS.
While going to a two year tech college for it, he had to attend nursing classes. Comprised mainly of women. The first class of the day was one of those & he was the only guy there. Seems a lot of "feminists" attended this particular one & would engage in "girl talk" before lessons' start. A lot of it about, to put it mildly, "those men" & what scum they are. Being a gentleman, he kept quiet & would pass the time reading while they pretended he wasn't there. He put up with this for several weeks.
It came to a head finally. It was during a particularly vituperative before class session a hush fell over the room & one of the more vocal "activists" turned to him & loudly asked:
"So what do you think of all this?"
He calmly set down his book. He scanned the room, seeing all eyes on him.
"If you people didn't f---, there'd be a bounty on you."
The wailing! The whining! The grinding & gnashing of teeth! The absolute, cacophonous, pan-demonic-onium that ensued ...
What ... OMG! ... Dis ... Disagreement! Opposition! ... The sanctity of our suffering & outlook! ... Under attack! ... How ... How dare he dood this! How ... dare he ... Dare!?
Word of this got to the assitant dean. As this was the 90s all he got was a warning after explaining his side of the story. The male bashing in that particular class was a lot less after that though.

The Sansei Shooter
The Sansei Shooter
While working at the pistol range in Powell Ohio back in the 90s, I would often avail myself of conversation with the various clientele. One interesting fellow comes to mind. The only Japanese redneck I've ever met.
He worked in the offices of a gravel quarry in southwest Columbus. In his late fifties/early sixties, wearing (Depending on the weather.) a worn blue jacket or a ratty t-shirt, he'd come in once a week smoking one of those big cigars of his, to "shoot the bull".
We always got a charge out of this guy (Sadly, he's no longer with us. Damn cancer.). He'd regal us with tales of the bad ole days of living in the OSU area during the sixties (The National Guard was called out on various occasions, not because of political "activism" but because THE BUCKEYES! won/lost a game. Nowadays it's just 12th Ave. going up in smoke.), or the drawbacks & merits of the various models of Harley & Triumph bikes.
Invariably the discussion got to politics, particularly gun control. We of course all agreed it was a matter of putting the second round through the hole the first one made & not the lofty non-solutions as proposed by the starry eyed, self appointed, would be saviors of our souls. One quote of his I'll never forget:
"They say waiting periods (For gun purchases.) are for cooling you down. Bulls--t! I've been divorced from my ex-wife for over twenty years & I still wanta' kill her!"
On another occasion, I asked why he owned guns. He gave an answer that's stuck with me to this day:
"I was born in a concentration camp at Tule Lake in northern California. This was where they sent 'troublemakers'. My mom was there because she wouldn't sign a loyalty oath. She said she was an American & didn't have to sign so they sent her there. I may not remember much of it at all but they 'did it' to me before, they're not going to 'do it' to me again. That's why I own guns."
This was in sharp contrast to the reaction I got from a regular customer from Yokohama who was in the U.S. for his company. He was a bit aghast when I stated that any of the internees had the perfect right to shoot anyone taking them to a "relocation center". That "go with the flow" mentality I'll never understand.
Things are different everywhere.

Urban Legend: Emasculation by Auto? Yes It DOES Happen!
Urban Legend: Emasculation by Auto? Yes It DOES Happen!

We've all heard of "urban legends". You know. Idiots putting small dogs in microwave ovens in order to dry them off after a bath with horrendous results. Fools boiling gasoline in the hope their cars will start quicker. Weirdos/criminals spotted in the back seat ready to pounce. These & other stories we only hear about & are usually unsubstantiated. It's always, at best, tertiary sources. "A friend of a friend of a friend told me ..... " etc.
I do howsomever, remember over the years of actually reading newspaper accounts of stuff like the above, complete with names & dates, so there is something to these stories. I've concluded that, human beings being what they are, "it" probably did happen at least once.
I recollect some snarky guest on The Joey Reynolds Show (WNBC AM 660 Khz) back in the 80s was "debunking" these "legends" & daring callers to offer real proof. This ticked me off slightly as I thought of the news articles I read up to that time. As no one (Including yours truly.) ever saves these clippings, this guy was probably going to get away with his smugness. Of course now, there's the net & snopes.com.
One "urban legend" that always stuck in my mind was the (To me.) horror of, to put it politely, "orally produced emasculation". To wit: A woman is "orally stimulating" her boyfriend in a parked car when it is struck from behind & the poor guy "losing it". A painfully tragic story indeed.
It's understandable if there was seemingly no way to substantiate such a story. I mean, would you want to talk about it if it happened to you? I certainly wouldn't announce it to the world.
A Sunday co-worker at the shooting range in Powell, Ohio was a full time insurance adjustor by profession. It occured to me that if anyone was in a postion to know about the veracity of such a tale, it would be him. So I asked. I'm with holding his name so this will probably come across as another "tertiary" source. Can't be helped. I myself am at least satisfied that this is true.
In his then 25 years as an insurance adjustor, he encountered only cases that had occured in moving vehicles. The victim would lose control & end up in a field or running into something. He had handled five such cases. Four mutilations & one complete sever. Now you know.
